The past two decades have left behind the old conception of early fate-restricted neural progenitors. new paradigm is that a more plastic brain, in which cellular potential multi-fated progenitors progressively restricted. This observed switch from neurogenesis to gliogenesis, but also generation different types glial cells and neurons at later stages. mechanisms establish brain cell diversity or heterogeneity within single population are starting be elucidated. role cycle regulators dynamics asymmetric distribution cargoes during division attracting attention. Understanding these could open way for treatments against pathologies such as tumors neurodegenerative disorders.
